New Road (Garden Court) - Banbury
2 maisonette houses and 4 flats, with associated external amenity space and a gated private parking area off the central courtyard garden.
These properties were constructed right in the heart of the market town of Banbury. The project came with the extra challenge of locating this new housing within the grounds of a listed building and within the conservation area. Edmunds House is a Grade II* listed building which had been used more recently for local authority offices.
Town houses of this type would have often had rear accommodation in a mews form and these new subservient buildings give a distinct nod to that history. Previous schemes had considered subdivision of the main listed house into two smaller dwellings, but Coleman Hicks quickly established that retaining the main house as a single dwelling helped to keep the local planning authority onboard for a much more ambitious scheme.
Construction started in mid 2020 and the project was completed in early 2022. All the homes proved extremely sought after and were quickly sold shortly after completion. The scheme is a credit to the skilled trades involved who thankfully maintained that initial vision right through into the final build.
